A top-tier wine club designed for collectors and connoisseurs that is sure to impress you and your guests.
For a wine club that picks out such excellent wine, they don't need to be so customer-friendly on their extra features... but they are! We can't help but love their attention to detail.
We don't have any suggestions for what to improve within the Diamond Series wine club. Yay!
We've been reviewing Gold Medal wine club for more than five years. Without a moment's hesitation we can say that they have the most consistently excellent two bottle wine club out there. They have an extraordinary expectation of wowing their customers—and their customers' lucky gift recipients.
The Diamond Series by Gold Medal is their ultra-premium and at this price-point, Gold Medal brings its customers the finest California wines at prices below winery retail —which is good, because most of us can't afford $100+ for a bottle of wine.
The very definition of "good problems to have"
This is the first shipment that's ever shown up at our door that hasn't been slated for a taste-test. You might wonder how we can justify a wine club review if we haven't tasted the wines... so let me explain.
Whenever a shipment of wine arrives from a wine club, we photograph it in various stages of unpacking and just before its typically-brief housing in our walk-in cellar. Then we settle in and start researching the wines before we taste them.
In this case, when we researched these wines, we discovered they are meant to be aged, not drunk right away. Contemplating what the right move here was, we decided because we have the luxury of proper wine storage, we should age the wines according to the wineries' directions. We'll update this review a few years from now and tell you how completely amazing the wines are. In the meantime, you can use Robert Parker's enthusiastic ratings as your deciding-factor about whether or not you're getting good value for your big-money wine dollars with the Diamond Series.
PLEASE NOTE: If you do not have proper wine storage (consistent temperature in the mid-50s, dark, proper humidity, etc.) do NOT age these wines. Open them up, decant them for a few hours, and then enjoy.
This shipment includes the Patel 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley (retail price $110) and the 2010 Oakville East Core Stone Red Wine from the Oakville AVA in Napa (retail price $125). Each of these exceptionally-pedigreed wines are from TINY productions (205 cases and 150 cases, respectively) and garnered top ratings from Robert Parker (94 pts) and Wine Enthusiast (95 pts) respectively.
The Diamond Series from Gold Medal comes with limited educational materials and a lot of content you'd get by looking up each winery's website. This is probably the biggest disappointment of this particular club from Gold Medal, BUT we promise the amazing wine makes up for this shortcoming.
One of our favorite things about the Gold Medal wine club is how they really push hard on quality, but also on rewarding their loyal club members. Find a wine you love in this shipment? You can reorder two or more bottles at further discounted prices. If you're a four-bottle member you're rewarded with better discounts. And of course with either membership, the more you buy the more you save.
And of course, like any proper wine club, there are no sign-up fees and you can cancel any time.
93+ rated, legendary wines! Our exclusive, top-of-the-line club, the Diamond Series showcases jaw-dropping, luxury-premium wines from California and the world’s most renowned winemakers. Each quarterly shipment (eg: Feb, May, Aug, Nov) features two memorable selections along with their impeccable credentials. Limited to 500 members, a fortunate few have the opportunity to enjoy the ultimate wine tasting experience.
The Plus! Program brings you more of a good thing! A special add-on bottle option to the regularly scheduled deliveries. It's a great way to discover more outstanding hard to find-to-find wines.
