Buying for yourself or as a gift? Get two extra bottles and a $25 wine credit for their wine store with promo code EXTRAWINE. Until Dec 31, 2018.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This wine club, one of our favorites, features hard-to-access, ultra-premium, mostly red wine, from California's boutique family wineries. An important thing to note: not all bottles shipped in this club have the same general cost. Instead of getting two $75 bottles, you might get a $140 and a $35 bottle. No matter how much it retails for, you'll always get interesting wine from the Siganture Series.

What We Love: We love the wine we've received from this club, in fact it's on our Editor's Picks list because we'd sign up for this one. Also, they reward volume purchasing! If you can afford it, by upgrading to the 4-bottle per shipment program you can save up to $11 per bottle. Get a preview of the killer selection in their online wine store.

Could Be Better: As a general rule, we think The California Wine Club has little they can do to improve. Whether you're buying for yourself or as a gift, they've really done a lot to create a wine club worth joining.

WineClubReviews Exclusive! Save 50% on your first shipment when enrolling in an ongoing subscription of the Aged Cabernet Series. Use coupon code WCRHALF. No expiration.

Buying for yourself or as a gift? Get two extra bottles and a $25 wine credit for their wine store with promo code EXTRAWINE. Until Dec 31, 2018.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This wine club is perfect for Cabernet lovers who lack the patience to cellar red wines and those who want to explore aged wine with a Satisfaction Guarantee. Each shipment contains two bottles of perfectly-cellared, mostly Napa, California Cabernet Sauvignon that's ready to drink now.

What We Love: We like that they bring you a variety of aged Cabernet Sauvignon, at different levels of quality from exceptional to rarified. Each shipment explores the different wine regions of Napa Valley and Sonoma County, like Oakville, Alexander Valley, Atlas Peak, Howell Mountain, and Spring Mountain District. We also love that you can buy Cabernet online in their store.

Could Be Better: As a general rule, we think The California Wine Club has little they can do to improve. Whether you're buying for yourself or as a gift, they've really done a lot to create a wine club worth joining.

Case Club
by The California Wine Club

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Among all of the case clubs (12 bottles, typically shipped quarterly), this California wine club offering selections from boutique wineries is one of the two best deals. The other club delivers 90+ point wine from around the world.

What We Love: We asked The California Wine Club for a case club deal and they made one! And now you get to save a TON of money on their already affordable Premier Series wines.

Could Be Better: Normally we'd ask for a deal for this club, but it's already priced as low as it can go, so it's perfect as is!

WINC Wine Club
by WINC

Limited Time Offer
Save $25 on your first Winc box (up to 50% off) when you use our links. No code needed.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Winc set out to change the wine industry by finding new ways to get better value to wine drinkers in the under $15 range, and boy have they ever. By delivering unprecedented value at $13 a bottle and personalized selections geared for every palate, Winc is a standout wine of the month club. If you're ready for more sophisticated wines, you can upgrade to Winc Select. Either way, you can save even more money by participating in their myriad rewards programs.

What We Love: We love how they go above and beyond to reward loyal customers with substantial savings and invitations to a premium level program. No other wine club offers this level of loyalty rewards, or this much fun! Also, as time has passed under wine director Ryan Zotovich, the selection of premium wines has both grown in selection and quality.

Could Be Better: Winc works so hard to make their service great that it's hard for us to think of something they should do to make it even better.

90+ Wine Club
by Wired For Wine ®

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Among all of the case clubs (12 bottles, typically shipped quarterly), this 90+ International wine club is among the best two deals. The other focuses only on California wine, but this one takes you on a journey around the world. Enjoy eclectic wines at the best prices you'll find.

What We Love: It's so easy to get into a wine rut and stick with what you know. Wired For Wine ® helps you break out of that rut in a low-cost, satisfaction guaranteed way so you can find new wines to love. Also, when compared with similarly-priced case clubs, this one stands out for wine quality in a big way.

Could Be Better: Normally we'd ask for a deal for this club, but it's already priced as low as it can go, so it's nearly perfect as is! We'd love to see a little bit of customization available and also monthly clubs for people who drink more than a bottle a week.

Buying for Yourself? Free in your first shipment: 2 Bonus Wines and a $25 Wine Credit to use on any future order. Use promo code EXTRAWINE. Until Dec 31, 2018.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This wine subscription focuses on high-quality and value-priced wines from small family wineries in California, and is perfect to give as a gift or to join yourself. Even though California wine is legendary, most of us can't afford legendary wine prices. The California Wine Club's "Love it" Guarantee means you'll love your wine or they'll send you something else at no additional cost.

What We Love: The California Wine Club appears on the most lists of best wine clubs on our website because they overdeliver on value, customer service, and quality. The Premier Series is their biggest wine club and is the perfect gift for a California wine lover. If you join for yourself, you'll also enjoy wine credits, concierge service for wine tasting trips to California, and more perks of membership. The California Wine Club now regularly offers introductory discounts, and that makes this wine club a better value while still delivering fantastic quality.

Could Be Better: Our only complaints about the Premier Series are twofold. First, if you order red wine only or white wine only, you'll get two of the same wine in your shipment. Second, they offer a 4-bottle version of the wine club (with free shipping), but you have to call to upgrade and we wish they would just offer it on the website when you sign up.

Mixed Wine Club
by Plonk Wine Club

Limited Time Offer
Save $10 on any order with promo code NEWMEMBER. Bonus: Get a FREE double-hinged corkscrew with your first shipment. If you've never used one, you'll see why it's the best way to open a bottle of wine!

Generalist Rating:

Overview: The Plonk wine club has always been among our favorites because of the proprietor's preference for quirky but delectable wines. Etty Lewensztain sources interesting wines made from grapes and regions you've never heard of (and some you have). Whether you choose four or twelve bottles you'll be glad you picked Plonk.

What We Love: Lately we've come to think of Plonk as the "Somm club" that isn't run by a sommelier. With a focus on wines under $30 that will delight any curious wine drinker, we think the value is top notch. Also, unlike most wine clubs, if you're thinking of going red-only or white-only, you'll actually get four different selections (three of each if you upgrade to 12 bottles).

Could Be Better: When it comes to Plonk we have little to ask for in the improvement department. Because the wines are so great, we'd really like to see a more giftworthy version of the subscription which includes gift wrap and maybe even store credits so gift recipients can order more of their favorites.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Using the same methods of wine selection for more than 25 years, The California Wine Club expanded their vision to include an International wine club, too. Get an in-depth look at new-to-you wine regions around the world with all of the perks of being a member of The California Wine Club.

What We Love: As hard as it is to find boutique wines produced in the United States, it's even harder to find these tiny gems overseas. The fine selections we received were an eclectic pair of wines from Becker Vineyards in Germany; a Pinot Noir and a Pinot Gris. There is much to love about The California Wine Club, but we especially love their devotion to their members. We also like that it's a family business supporting family wineries.

Could Be Better: As a general rule, we think The California Wine Club has little they can do to improve. Whether you're buying for yourself or as a gift, they've really done a lot to create a wine club worth joining.

Cellar Select
by GrapeSeed Wine

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Grapeseed Wine started out as a way to have customers help fund one-time wine productions by acclaimed winemakers, but now it's a premium wine club, too. Get preferred pricing on all of their new releases and enjoy helping stellar winemakers stretch their winemaking creativity.

What We Love: We're big fans of any group that has exclusive wines because they produced them (as opposed to buying out a full production of someone else's wine)

Could Be Better: We'd like to see more options available, particularly for gifting, but also for delivery frequency. We're looking forward to the next release of Grapeseed wines to augment the selection.

Gold Series Club
by Gold Medal Wine Club

Limited Time Offer
Exclusive Deal! Get a bonus bottle of Napa Cab, a free artist-designed gift box, free gift bags, and a free printed gift notice on all gifts of 3 months or longer! Get this exclusive bonus!

Generalist Rating:

Overview: California is home to some of the world's best wine regions and wineries, many of which are boutique wineries. A boutique winery is typically a small-family operation with limited distribution beyond their tasting room. This wine of the month club is a great way to get introduced to what California wine has to offer at reasonable prices and it makes an excellent gift.

What We Love: Consistency. We've been receiving their shipments for years and we've never had a wine we didn't like. You can't really ask for more than that from a wine club.

Could Be Better: As a general rule, we think Gold Medal Wine Club has little they can do to improve. Whether you're buying for yourself or as a gift, they've really done a lot to create a wine club worth joining.

Wine by the Glass Club
by VineBox

Generalist Rating:

Overview: One-of-a-kind wine tasting club which delivers wine by the glass instead of in full size bottles so you can taste your way through sommelier-selected grown up juice. Reorder full bottles or more glasses of what you love. Now delivered quarterly.

What We Love: We especially love that sommelier Tyler Kennedy picks the wine — and it shows. We’ve been super impressed with the quality of each wine we’ve received. The unusual selection genuinely seems like a somm picked the wines. We also love the pricing which rewards bigger customers.

Could Be Better: Given the care taken to select interesting wine, we want more more information about the wine regions, the wineries, and the winemakers in the tasting notes.

Special Selections
by Uncorked Ventures

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This Special Selections wine club offers ultra-premium, red wines from California, Oregon, and Washington and offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Curated by a winemaker who finds out about great wines from other winemakers, not distributors. Who needs sommelier access when you've got winemaker access?

What We Love: We're quite impressed with most of the past selections from Uncorked Ventures, especially as they include some of our favorite West Coast wine-growing regions. There's always a richness to the selections that sometimes is missing from other wine clubs.

Could Be Better: We know Mark at Uncorked Ventures is fixated on making wine and finding great wine to ship out to his loyal members, but we'd love to see the website updated regularly with past shipment information and an introductory offer.

Buying for yourself or as a gift? Get two extra bottles and a $25 wine credit for their wine store with promo code EXTRAWINE. Until Dec 31, 2018.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This wine club features wines from Oregon and Washington — two award-winning wine regions drawing the attention of those in the know. Using the same methods and ideas of wine selection as they've used for years in California, The California Wine Club has translated their vision to an Pacific Northwest region. Get an in-depth look at these Burgundian and Bordeaux-style regions with all of the perks of being a member of The California Wine Club.

What We Love: The California Wine Club has an excellent reputation and they've been in business a long time. We like that it's a family business supporting family wineries.

Could Be Better: We have very little we feel The California Wine Club could do to improve. The prices sometimes feel a bit high, but when you factor in all of the benefits of membership, including a satisfaction guarantee, we still feel like you get what you pay for here.

Diamond Series
by Gold Medal Wine Club

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This quarterly wine club features true luxury wines rated 93+ and finds California wines so exclusive that the club is limited to 500 members. You get collector-level access without the hassle of doing your own research. A lot of wines (and wine clubs) call themselves "super premium" but most of them fail to live up to the hype, this one does.

What We Love: This wine club ships mostly red wine and occasionally a stunning white at prices well below retail. We love seeing superstars like Blackbird Red Blend from Calistoga, Odette Estate Cabernet Sauvingon from Stag's Leap District, and the 97-point Matetic Syrah from Chile. You can shop these luxury wines online at their store.

Could Be Better: As a general rule, we think Gold Medal Wine Club has little they can do to improve. Whether you're buying for yourself or as a gift, they've really done a lot to create a wine club worth joining.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Heavily hyped when released in the Spring and in the Summer when sipping on pink wine is de rigeur, Rosé goes great with all of your lighter meals the rest of the year, too. Dress up a salad, some poultry, or fish with a pink rosé. This club ships two bottles every other month.

What We Love: Rosé is a go-to wine around here because it's so versatile with food and light enough to sip on before dinner, too. As this is the only 100% rosé wine club we know of, we love that they know how awesome rosé is, too!

Could Be Better: We'd love to see this club delivered monthly and in larger quantities... two bottle just doesn't seem like enough! It is the perfect amount for a wine club gift, though...

Nocking Point Club
by Nocking Point Wines

Limited Time Offer
Save $20 off your first wine club order with code WCR at checkout.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: A super-fun Pacific Northwest wine and coffee subscription featuring artful labels born of celebrity and tastemaker collaborations. Each quarterly shipment also includes a t-shirt with extra goodies around the holidays.

What We Love: Among other things, we love the uniqueness factor. This isn?t a wine club where a celebrity slaps his or her name on the marketing. This is a winery that collaboratively produces with celebrities, and then lets the celeb pick the art for the bottle. Sometimes the celebs even design the labels themselves. This all adds up to a lot of personality and a feeling of being on the inside of the Hollywood industry.

Could Be Better: This wine club does not yet offer everything we expect from a top-rated wine subscription box. We?d like to see more information about what?s in the bottle to accompany the quirky insider anecdotes, the ability to personalize shipments (choose a wine color), gift subscriptions, and an end to the two-shipment minimum (there?s a $40 early cancellation fee).

Generalist Rating:

Overview: These are the highest level wines you can get in a membership from The Original Wine of the Month Club ™, generally well-made wines from well-known areas. At $25-30 a bottle, it's competitive with several other wine clubs on price, but the wines are little more "traditional" and not discovery oriented.

What We Love: Paul Kalemkiarian, second generation proprietor at Wine of the Month Club ™ goes out of his way to source interesting wines, and in this price point that can be a challenge, particularly in finding California wines. So he leans on an International selection to bring you better value in this price range.

Could Be Better: This is our favorite wine subscription from Wine of the Month Club, but we think the marketing text on their website is a little overhyped. Expect very good wines for these prices, but "Special Occasion" seems too generous of a description.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Bordeaux is famous for huge price tags on their Premier Cru wines, but Bordeaux is a big region and there are many producers of less-expensive Bordeaux wines. This club focuses on these growers and ships every other month.

What We Love: Who doesn't love getting world-class Bordeaux wine at bargain prices? While Bordeaux often fetches upwards of $80 a bottle, these other Bordeaux wines delight at just $25 a bottle.

Could Be Better: We'd love to see this club delivered monthly and in larger quantities... two bottle just doesn't seem like enough! It is the perfect amount for a wine club gift, though...

Overview: Napa Valley is famous for Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is a substantial amount of other wine being grown and produced in Napa that's also very good. The same growing conditions, the same winemakers, but we're seeing great red blends, other single-varietal reds, and of course, terrific white wines, too! This wine club ships Napa wine every other month.

What We Love: Who doesn't love getting world-class Napa wine at bargain prices? While Napa Cab often fetches upwards of $60 a bottle, these other Napa wines delight at just $25 a bottle.

Platinum Series
by Gold Medal Wine Club

Limited Time Offer
Buy more, save more! Buy 12 months and save 5%. Upgrade to 4 bottles to save another 5% on any number of shipments! No coupon needed.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: If you're ready to upgrade to a higher quality wine from California and explore what all of the artisanal buzz is about, this should be your first stop. These mostly red wines from the best small wineries typically retail in the $35-90 range but you pay a much lower price to have them delivered. Joining for yourself means variable shipment prices, but if you buy as a pre-paid gift subscription you'll know your price in advance. Hint: Buy yourself a pre-paid gift subscription instead of joining as an ongoing member.

What We Love: We spend a lot of time wine tasting in California and are personally familiar with many of the wineries shipped in Gold Medal's Platinum Series. They ship our favorites and must-try wines like Dilécta GSM from Paso Robles, Volker Eisele Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, and Frank Family Petite Sirah from Napa to name a few.

Could Be Better: With such an amazing breadth of white wine being produced in California, we're sort of disappointed that all of the white wine in the Platinum series has been Chardonnay. We'd love to see some bold Rhone white selections from Paso Robles, some Sauvignon Blanc from Santa Barbara, and of course, surprise grapes.

Pinot Noir Series
by Gold Medal Wine Club

Limited Time Offer
Buy more, save more! Save 5% on 12-month gifts. No coupon needed.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Pinot Noir is one of the most beloved red wine grapes and this Pinot of the month club is the best one for discovering Pinot Noir from California. Discover boutique wineries producing world-class Pinot Noir in Santa Barbara, Sonoma, and other regions around California. Stunning Pinot from Joseph Jewell, Dragonette Cellars, and Kessler-Haak to name a few.

What We Love: We're big fans of California Pinot Noir in general, and we love how Gold Medal sources award-winning selections from small producers we may not have heard of or haven't had access to for purchasing. A membership with the Gold Medal Wine Club Pinot Noir Series takes Pinot lovers on a trip to California for wine tasting without leaving home. Check out their Pinot selection.

Could Be Better: As a general rule, we think Gold Medal Wine Club has little they can do to improve. Whether you're buying for yourself or as a gift, they've really done a lot to create a wine club worth joining.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Garagiste is a term which describes up-and-coming winemakers who toil away creating artisanal wines in their, well not usually, garages. If you're someone who wants to be up on the latest and greatest future stars of California winemaking, try the mostly red wine selection of Garagiste wines from the Gold Medal Wine Club.

What We Love: We look forward to discovering new wineries from all over California. We know we're getting very good wine at below-retail prices and helping small family businesses grow.

Could Be Better: Like other Gold Medal Wine Club series, we'd really like to see more information about the winemaking and viticulture in the educational materials.

Firstleaf Club
by Firstleaf

Limited Time Offer
Sign up today and try three wines selected based on your preferences for just $15 + $4.95 shipping. Future club shipments are six bottles for $79.95 + $9.95 shipping.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: An affordably-priced personalized wine club that learns what you like as you receive, drink, and rate six bottle shipments. International, domestic, and award-winning wine from a thoroughly modern wine subscription box service.

What We Love: Compared with other wine subscriptions in this price category, we think Firstleaf has nailed ease-of-use, presentation, and offers reasonably-interesting wines. We also really like that they identify the body, acidity, sweetness, fruitiness, and tannin level for each wine they sell. You can review the wine before it is shipped and swap out wines that have characteristics you don?t like.

Could Be Better: We think their marketing materials make them seem better than they really are, but with a 100% satisfaction guarantee and inexpensive introductory shipment, you can decide for yourself.

The World of Wine Club
by Vinesse

Limited Time Offer
Save $120 on your first shipment (six wines are only $9.75 each) and get two bonus bottles of a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir ($50 value).

Generalist Rating:

Overview: We really enjoy this International wine club where each shipment contains six different wines from a single wine region somewhere in the world. Of the many clubs that offer an International selection, most aren't themed for additional wine discovery and education.

What We Love: We received shipments of this wine club for years because it always kept a good variety of food-friendly and affordable wines on hand, we never opened a bottle we were disappointed with, and we feel this club offers a good quality-to-price ratio.

Could Be Better: We'd love to see customers rewarded for buying bigger allotments. "Buy more save more" pricing would be a great addition to the line-up. We'd also really like to see the shipping costs come down dramatically.

Champagne Club
by Henri's Reserve

Generalist Rating:

Overview: We already go weak in the knees for a great champagne, but the shipment we received has us wishing the next shipment would get here sooner. A mouth-watering way to explore the region of Champagne, particularly from boutique grower houses that rarely export to the United States.

What We Love: A delightful and decadent way to treat yourself (or pamper a lucky gift recipient), Henri's Reserve is a playful yet sophisticated true Champagne Club, featuring top-notch small producers.

Could Be Better: It would be the best Champagne Club ever if they really stepped up the rewards of membership. We've been told they're working on it.

Bubbles & Rosé Club
by Vinley Market

Limited Time Offer
New customers save 10% on their first order with coupon code WCR2017

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Sometimes you want bubbly, sometimes you want rosé, and with this club you can get both from small wineries offering exceptional value. There aren't many sparkling wine clubs and this is the only wine club we know of that promises rosé in every shipment.

What We Love: Rosé has experienced a meteoric rise to popularity, because it plays well in so many different styles, and these sommelier-selected sparkling rosés (and still rosé, too) scratch that rosé itch. We especially love how the selections are dry and fruity without being too sweet.

Could Be Better: For wine clubs that aren't widely reviewed, we like to see a few specific features that let us know they take their wine selection seriously. A history of the last few shipments would be helpful, as would a satisfaction guarantee.

Wine Down Box
by Wine Down Box

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Sometimes you just want a bottle of wine, some cheese and salami, and some crackers to tie all together and wind down a long work week. Enter the Wine Down Box (you see what they did there?) and add a little classy fun to your Friday nights — or someone else's as this makes a great gift!

What We Love: The wines have been excellent, and the pairings with the cheeses have been spot on. For how much hype there is around wine-and-cheese pairings in general, it's actually not that easy to pull off. And of course, we're suckers for salami.

Could Be Better: We're actually not fans of the crackers that come with this box. They're difficult to put a piece of salami and/or cheese on top of, so they're relegated to nibbling between bites of the other stuff. This is NOT a reason to avoid this otherwise awesome wine and cheese club.

Buy more, save more! Save 5% on 4-shipment gifts. No coupon needed.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This international wine of the month club is delivered quarterly and features wineries you can't buy from any other company in the U.S. Each shipment features a new winery and wine region.

What We Love: Whether you choose just the wine or you upgrade to include the regional gourmet treats with the Adventure Package, this quarterly wine club will take you on your own wine-drinking adventure around the world. Extensive regional and winery information goes out with each shipment, chock full of photos that help you feel like you've gone wine tasting in a far away land.

Could Be Better: As a general rule, we think Gold Medal Wine Club has little they can do to improve. Whether you're buying for yourself or as a gift, they've really done a lot to create a wine club worth joining.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: Our favorite series offered by The International Wine of the Month Club, we really dig the interesting, high-end, European-focused wines that arrive at our door. We've been able to find Italian and French red wines we enjoy courtesy of this wine club, which helps us understand the wine from these countries in a more nuanced way.

What We Love: More than anything, we love surprise factor of these wines. Every time we open a box, we sort of grimace at the prospect of drinking a Rhone red or an Barolo (wines that we typically don't enjoy because of our own palate preferences), but we're always surprised at how the wines are enjoyable anyway, and usually much better than we were expecting.

Could Be Better: We'd love to see four-bottle shipments offered by this wine club as a way to help mitigate the cost. The company offers a reliable, quality-driven service, so you don't really get deals on the wine in the shipments. At the level of The Collectors Series (which we think has an over-inflated name), the discount aspect of the wine club is not a primary concern.

Light & Sweet Wine Club
by Vinesse

Generalist Rating:

Overview: One of our favorite wine of the month clubs, this Light & Sweet club is the perfect choice for so many wine drinkers who prefer fruity and sweeter wines to drier styles. If you are someone, or know someone, who loves wines like Moscato, Riesling and Gewurtztraminer, sign up for this wine club because it's the only one like it out there in the wine club universe.

What We Love: We strongly support all niche wine clubs. The taste of wine is subjective and we think everyone should drink what they love. Given the high delivery fees from Vinesse, we recommending joining the 12-bottle wine club and have the shipments sent as often as is appropriate.

Could Be Better: We'd love to see customers rewarded for buying bigger allotments. "Buy more save more" pricing would be a great addition to the line-up. We'd also really like to see the shipping costs come down dramatically.

TastingRoom.com
by Tasting Room by Lot18

Limited Time Offer
Get a $40 tasting kit for just $6.95 when you sign up today. No coupon needed.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: A 12-bottle personalized wine club that begins to get to know your preferences with a six mini-bottle wine tasting kit delivered for $6.95. By signing up for the tasting kit experience you are automatically enrolling in regular wine club shipments, 12 bottles delivered quarterly for $149 plus $19.99 shipping.

What We Love: Their best feature is total control of your account online without having to contact customer service — change the contents of your shipment, change your shipment size, have your next shipment sent exactly when you want it, or even cancel online.

Could Be Better: The wines offered in the $6.95 tasting kit have extreme profiles (likely the best way to identify the boundaries of your palate) but the experience is fun anyway. It's important to note: rating the wine triggers the first full-price case to be shipped.

Adventurer's Wine Box
by Vinley Market

Limited Time Offer
New customers save 10% on their first order with coupon code WCR2017

Generalist Rating:

Overview: The Adventurer's Wine Box implies you never know what you're going to get, but you can bet since it's coming from Vinley Market it's probably going to be pretty good. Great wine value delivered monthly.

What We Love: They don't make a big deal out of it, but the wines selected for this subscription are handpicked by a sommelier who loves the taste and the value of every bottle. And it shows.

Could Be Better: As wine clubs go, the options are pretty limited. They only offer monthly shipments and 3-bottle packages. But since the wine is a good value it's worth exploring the selections and trying it their way.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This is the happy medium of wine clubs they offer as you get one bottle from their entry-level subscription and one bottle from their premium membership. If you're doing your math as "average price paid per bottle" you might not love this club, but if you consider that you're getting one value-priced wine and one special-occasion wine in each shipment, it's a neat concept.

What We Love: Unlike some other wine clubs which focus on acquiring closeout wines to ship to their members, this wine club cares a great deal about coming up with consistent selections befitting their reputation of 25 years in the business. Their tasting panel includes proprietor Kris Calef, wine professionals, and everyday wine drinkers, so they excel at finding palate-friendly wines with wide appeal.

Could Be Better: We'd love to see four-bottle shipments offered by this wine club as a way to help mitigate the cost. The company offers a reliable, quality-driven service, so you don't really get deals on the wine in the shipments. While we'd probably pass on this particular subscription for ourselves, we think it makes a terrific wine club gift — especially if you mix it up with some of their other cool monthly clubs.

Bright Cellars Club
by Bright Cellars

Limited Time Offer
New subscribers save 50% ($30) on the first shipment when you buy using our links.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: A personalized wine club that gets to know what kind of wine you like through a wine-preference quiz and the ratings you give for wines from previous shipments. Sends four bottles of wine that match your preferences, monthly.

What We Love: Bright Cellars has amazing customer service and offers a cheese-pairing option as an add-on. We've liked each shipment better than the last, and this corresponds to seeing our Bright Points (accuracy of matching) increase, too.

Could Be Better: While the wine is fine, we'd like to see a more focused adherance to selecting wines that resemble the grapes on the bottle. Typicity is a hallmark of quality wine. At $15 a bottle, great quality is rarely achievable, but better typicity would certainly increase the value being offered here.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: A six or 12-bottle wine subscription geared toward occasional drinkers who don't want to spend a lot on their wine. An International selection with a good variety of wines and wine regions.

What We Love: There isn't anything Martha Stewart does that isn't beautiful, and the branding and experience of this wine subscription program are no exception to that rule.

Could Be Better: While we really enjoyed the white wines we received, the reds left much to be desired.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This is the mid-range membership from The Original Wine of the Month Club ™, offering generally well-made wines from well-known areas. At $15-20 a bottle, it's competitive with several other wine clubs on price, but they're more willing to push the envelope on lesser-known wine regions and grape varieties.

What We Love: Paul Kalemkiarian, second generation proprietor at Wine of the Month Club ™ goes out of his way to source interesting wines, and in this price point that can be a challenge, particularly in finding California wines. So he leans on an International selection to bring you better value in this price range.

Could Be Better: Our take on why they call this Vintners Series is that at this price point you're starting to see the personality and preferences of the winemaker in the final product, as opposed to wines that are produced in more of a large-scale production manner. We find the selections to be hit or miss for this wine club, but we're pretty picky.

Given the high delivery fees on this Chardonnay subscription from Vinesse, we recommending joining the 12-bottle wine club and have the shipments sent as often as is appropriate.

QPR Club (Kosher)
by KosherWine.com

Generalist Rating:

Overview: For Jews who keep kosher, buying wine can be a challenge as most stores don't have a section of Kosher wine clearly marked. KosherWine.com is like Wine.com, but every wine is in the Kosher section. Fun fact: there's way more Kosher wine available than just the stuff made from Concord grapes for Passover (Kiddush wine)!

What We Love: We love that while the market for Kosher wine in the U.S. is limited, this group still forges ahead to make sure there is a good-quality option available for Jews who keep kosher but like wine, especially on holidays. Because Kashrut law (the rules that decide what's kosher and what's not) prohibits consuming many kinds of animals, most Kosher wine is also good for Vegans (just double-check whether or not egg whites were used before you buy).

Could Be Better: Like many other wine clubs, we'd like them to publish the wines they've sent in recent shipments so we can be sure you're getting good value for your wine budget.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: We recently received several shipments from Vinesse, including the Pinot Noir club, and they've really stepped up their wine buying. Generalist Rating:

Overview: This value-driven International wine club with a very popular following from the Original Wine of the Month Club ™ lets you pick red wine, white wine, or a mix. Whether you're buying for yourself or as a gift, this is one of the lowest cost wine clubs around.

What We Love: Paul Kalemkiarian, second generation proprietor at Wine of the Month Club ™ goes out of his way to source interesting wines at rock bottom prices. He always is looking for ways to cram more value into his shipments, and being a member comes with the perk of receiving opportunities to buy addititional wine at ultra-low closeout prices.

Could Be Better: Most wine subscriptions in the $12 / bottle price range (does not include shipping) offers wines that have flaws. While we think these wines are better quality than others in this price range, we sometimes we pick up off flavors in the Classic Series selections. We'd like to see a drop more quality control for this subscription.

Elevant Society Wine Club
by Vinesse

Generalist Rating:

Overview: The premium-level wine club from Vinesse where over the years we've seen the quality-to-price ratio go from incredible to disappointing and everywhere in between. If you want a wine of the month club that delivers better quality wines that you can't easily find, but want the protection of a rock-solid satisfaction guarantee, this is a good choice.

What We Love: We like that you can decide how much of this wine club you want in your household's wine mix. You can choose 2, 4, 6, 8, or 12 bottles per shipment, though the delivery choices of 5, 7, or 14 times a year are kind of odd. Like most wine clubs, we advocate for joining with the highest number of bottles at an appropropriate frequency to save on shipping costs — a big savings with Vinesse.

Could Be Better: We'd like to see a little less of the superlatives... "super-premium" wines don't carry a $35 price tag. Regardless, these are definitely premium wines worth their price.

Overview: From the wine sales partner for Wine Enthusiast magazine, this wine of the month club is a no-hassle way to try new red and white wines from around the world. The wine director at WineExpress, Josh Farrell, hand picks each wine for their subscriptions.

What We Love: WineExpress is the retail arm of Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Who better to select the best wines for a wine of the month club than a company that rates wine?

Could Be Better: It's been a long time since we received a shipment from WineExpress, but the last ones we received we felt sent out an uninspiring selection of wine (medium- to large-production and widely available) and were priced too close to retail to be considered a good deal. We'd like to see them include previously-shipped wines on their wine club pages.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This 12-bottle case of wine club really jumpstarted this type of affordable wine subscription in the US and features value-focused white and red wines from around the world. Their $12 international wine selections typically offer better value in white wine than red. What We Love: We've received many shipments of wine from the WSJwine Wine Club over the years, but we continue to hold the club in relatively low esteem. It's perfect for a wine lover who wants an inexpensive selection of International wine delivered to their door every quarter. It's not a good fit for anyone who likes wine that sells above $15 at the grocery store.

Could Be Better: Because of the success of the WSJwine club, many other wine clubs are competing with 12-bottle case clubs priced around $170 per quarter (including shipping costs). Some of them are offering much better quality wine for that price so we know they could, too.

Overview: From the original Wine of the Month Club (really, they're the first!) you get wine delivered every month at really low prices. The proprietor drives a hard bargain and passes those deals onto his customers. This California Series is like their mid-level wine club but it focuses only on California wine. California Treasures
by Vinesse

Generalist Rating:

Overview: California produces some of the best wines in the world, with stunning wines to sip from up and down the extra large state, but this is not the wine club to buy them from. California Treasures ships wine at $15-17 a bottle, plus shipping, but this isn't a price-point where California wine excels. It's better in the mass-produced sub-$15 price range, and at $25+.

What We Love: One of the best features of any of the Vinesse wine clubs is their tasting notes. They sometimes feel a little sparse, but you always get the basic wine information, some winemaker info, a food pairing suggestion, and most-importantly, cellaring instructions (not that we think these are cellarworthy selections).

Could Be Better: It's been a while since we tried the California wine club from Vinesse, and at last check it left us disappointed. We've received a number of their other wine club's shipments recently and were quite impressed with how far the quality has come since they hired a new wine buyer. It's probably time for us to try the California Treasures club again, but in the mean time, we don't recommend it.

Overview: From the wine sales partner for Wine Enthusiast magazine, this wine of the month club is perfect for Italian wine lovers. Generalist Rating:

Overview: A three-bottle sparkling wine club that makes it easy to always have bubbly on hand for a special occasion or just because bubbly wine is fun to drink. This is one of the better value wine clubs from Vinesse and we always think it makes for a great wine subscription.

What We Love: We love that each shipment contains a budget-friendly selection like Prosecco, a mid-range selection like a California sparkling wine, and a true Champagne for a special occasion.

Introductory offer: $69.99 for 15 bottles of wine!

Generalist Rating:

Overview: The Laithwaites Wine club was one of the first 12-bottle case clubs offered up as a way to get your quarterly wine fix at value-focused prices. Over the years we've gone back and forth one whether or not they deliver a good value, but in general we think their $12 selections are stronger for white wine than red. What We Love: We've received many shipments of wine from Laithwaites over the years, but we continue to hold the club in relatively low esteem. Great Clubs Wine Club
by Clubs of America

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This is a company who sells many "of the month clubs" but has developed and maintain an excellent reputation for quality and customer service. That said, their wine of the month club isn't exactly pedigree-focused and most of the selections are from large-scale productions. It makes a great gift, especially for someone who loves wine but doesn't spend much on it.

What We Love: We haven't received a shipment of this wine club so we can't speak to the wine, but the pricing is exceptional for a wine of the month club gift and this makes an easy pick for a young wine drinker who's just starting out.

Could Be Better: For wine clubs that aren't widely reviewed, we like to see a few specific features that let us know they take their wine selection seriously. A history of the last few shipments would be helpful, as would a satisfaction guarantee.

Reserve Selections
by Uncorked Ventures

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This Reserve wine club offers ultra-premium, luxury red wines from California, Oregon, and Washington and offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Curated by a winemaker who finds out about great wines from other winemakers, not distributors. Who needs sommelier access when you've got winemaker access?

What We Love: There aren't an unlimited number of wine clubs featuring the Pacific Northwest, much less a company that offers three different levels to choose from, so we like the niche Uncorked Ventures is filling. We also like that it's a small family business with a strong passion for wine.

Could Be Better: We know Mark at Uncorked Ventures is fixated on making wine and finding great wine to ship out to his loyal members, but we'd love to see the website updated regularly with past shipment information and an introductory offer.

Four Seasons Wine Club
by Vinesse

Generalist Rating:

Overview: While it's a misnomer to call this a Four Seasons wine club (because you actually get a fifth shipment just in time for the holidays, to bring to parties or to serve at your own), it's still a great value wine club. Designed to compete with other big name quarterly case clubs, the Vinesse Four/Five Seasons club is also tailored to the season, so you get lighter wines in the summer and heavier wines to help get you through the long winter.

What We Love: It's better to ship more wine less often, so we like the way they've compressed a normal 2-bottle monthly club

Could Be Better: Great value and a great track record are nothing to sneeze at, but we???d like to see a better understanding of where the wines will come from.

Cabernet Wine Club
by Gourmet Food Clubs

Generalist Rating:

Overview: One of the few red wine of the month clubs which exclusively ships Cabernet Sauvignon, with a focus on the California Central Coast, especially Paso Robles. The Cabernet produced in this region is known for natural acidity and big fruit. As a cool-climate grape growing in a warm-climate region, some vintages are definitely better than others. Please note: we have never received a shipment from this wine club.

What We Love: We're not especially enthusiastic about any aspect of this wine club.

Could Be Better: For wine clubs that aren't widely reviewed, we like to see a few specific features that let us know they take their wine selection seriously. A history of the last few shipments would be helpful, as would a satisfaction guarantee.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: A rare Chardonnay of the month club, this is an excellent choice for anyone who prefers Chardonnay as the wines all come from California's Central Coast. Edna Valley and Santa Barbara County are some of California's premium Chardonnay-growing regions and are included among the Chardonnays which ship with this club. Please note: we have never received a shipment from this wine club.

What We Love: Chardonnay is the most widely planted grape in the world and doesn't always get the love it deserves. While some producers choose to oak up their Chardonnay, others rely on malolactic fermentation to create a buttery flavor profile. We like the creamy, fruity Chardonnays that come from this wine region.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: This red wine of the month club focuses on California's Central Coast, including Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara County. These regions are known for fruit-forward and high-alcohol red wines, also known as Big Reds, and are the perfect accompaniment for steaks, pizzas, and burgers. Explore one of California's fastest-growing wine regions with this club.

What We Love: These guys actually live and taste on the Central Coast of California, so they know what's good and they have great relationships to get great deals. We also like even though their wine club is pre-paid (meaning you're "committing" to a few months), they reward members who pre-pay for more shipments with better prices.

Could Be Better: For wine clubs that aren't widely reviewed, we like to see a few specific features that let us know they take their wine selection seriously. A history of the last few shipments would be helpful, as would a satisfaction guarantee.

American Cellars (ACWC)
by Vinesse

Limited Time Offer
For joining the American Cellars Wine Club today, you'll receive a 6-piece insulated wine tote include with your third wine club shipment as a token of our appreciation—a $37.95 value.

Generalist Rating:

Overview: A wine club with a checkered past that is working its way toward redemption, American Cellars Wine Club offers monthly 6-bottle shipments of white or red wine, or a mix. Each shipment allows you to swap out any of the six bottles and order more of the others (at member prices), or upgrade your shipment by selecting any wine in their inventory (at regular prices).

What We Love: We're glad to see that Vinesse is stepping up their game, adding a deeper level of personalization and choice to their flagship wine club, as well as an easy way to opt out of a shipment online. We're also pleased that the wine quality has improved to be competitive with other wine clubs in this general price range ($12-18 a bottle).

Could Be Better: We're all for cheap wine, but we really would prefer our cheap wine to actually be cheap. These prices are too steep for cheap. And, to top it off, they charge really high shipping fees.
