Overview: California is home to some of the world's best wine regions and wineries, many of which are boutique wineries (wine jargon for small wineries with little-to-no distribution). This wine of the month club is a great way to get introduced to what California wine has to offer at reasonable prices. This wine club makes an excellent gift.
What We Love: Consistency. We've been receiving their shipments for months and we've never had a wine we didn't like. You can't really ask for more than that from a wine club.
Could Be Better: We don't have any suggestions for what to improve within the Gold Series wine club. Yay!
Overview: Sometimes you want bubbly, sometimes you want rosé, and with this club you can get both. There aren't many sparkling wine clubs and this is the only wine club we know of that promises rosé in every shipment.
What We Love: A very female-focused brand. The wine industry is dominated by men and men predominantly start companies... this is a business that from the ground up is thinking about how women want to interact with their wine clubs. Which is great, because women represent 70% of buyers in the U.S.
Could Be Better: As wine clubs go, the options are pretty limited. They only offer monthly shipments and 2-bottle packages.
Overview: Whether you choose just the wine or you upgrade to include the regional gourmet treats with the Adventure Package, this quarterly wine club will take you on your own wine-drinking adventure around the world. Extensive regional and winery information goes out with each shipment, chock full of photos that help you feel like you're not really at home, but in a far away wine region.
What We Love: It's hard to compare a wine club that includes extra goodies to one that doesn't, because come on, most wine lovers love food, too! The fact that you can't get these wines from any other company in the U.S. doesn't hurt either.
Could Be Better: We don't have any suggestions for what to improve within the International Series wine club. Yay!
Overview: The Bold Reds club features Interntaional red wines showcasing, yep, bigger and bolder flavors. More tannic and fruit forward, these are not your typical easy-drinking wines.
What We Love: International Wine of the Month Club focuses heavily on a seamless gift-giving experience. This is so important when evaluating a monthly wine club gift.
Could Be Better: We'd like to see them offer four-bottle subscriptions, and better reorder pricing for club members.
Overview: This is a 12-bottle personalized wine club. The personalization starts with the "tasting kit" but is really most impacted by the ratings you provide to wines you receive as full-size bottles. At $12/bottle, this is a convenient way to get your everyday wine delivered.
What We Love: Their best feature is total control of your account online without having to contact customer service — change the contents of your shipment, change your shipment size, have your next shipment sent exactly when you want it, or even cancel online.
Could Be Better: The wines offered in the $6.95 tasting kit have extreme profiles (likely the best way to identify the boundaries of your palate) but the experience is fun anyway. It's important to note: rating the wine triggers the first full-price case to be shipped.
Overview: This is the entry-level wine club offered by International Wine of the Month Club. It features interesting estate wines from regions in France, Italy, South America, and beyond.
What We Love: Great flexibility in billing and shipping, and customization paired with easy gift-giving make this wine club a great choice for the wine lovers in your world.
Could Be Better: We'd love to see four-bottle shipments offered by this wine club.
Overview: We've gone back and forth on Vinesse over the years, but we recently received several shipments from them, and they've really stepped up their game. If you're interested in more than just California Chardonnay and you don't want to spend a ton of money on it, we really recommend this Chardonnay wine club. Plus, you get Vinesse's rock solid satisfaction guarantee for every bottle, taking all of the risk out of joining a wine club.
What We Love: By focusing on Chardonnays that come from some of the world's cheaper wine regions, you get to enjoy all that Chardonnay has to offer and save a few bucks while you're at it
Could Be Better: We'd always like to know which wines have been in recent shipments. Their transparency could be better.
Overview: The WSJwine club, one of the first 12-bottle case clubs, is a great way to get quarterly wine delivery at value-focused prices. Their $14 international wine selections typically offer good value, especially as prices keep rising at the grocery store. Take advantage of their introductory offer of just $69.99 for a case, but be warned, you are signing up for recurring shipments at a much higher price.
What We Love: They have one of the best line-ups of introductory offers for wine clubs we've seen.
Could Be Better: A more customized selection geared toward the Wall Street Journal's specific audience.
Overview: Grapeseed Wine started out as a way to have customers help fund one-time wine productions by acclaimed winemakers, but now it's a red wine club, too. Get preferred pricing on all of their new releases and enjoy helping stellar winemakers stretch their winemaking creativity.
What We Love: We're big fans of any group that has exclusive wines because they produced them (as opposed to buying out a full production of someone else's wine)
Could Be Better: We'd like to see more options available, particularly for gifting, but also for delivery frequency. We're looking forward to the next release of Grapeseed wines to augment the selection.
Overview: This wine club features wines from Oregon and Washington — two U.S. award-winning wine regions. Using the same methods and ideas of wine selection as they've used for years in California, The California Wine Club has translated their vision to an Pacific Northwest region. Get an in-depth look at these Burgundian and Bordeaux-style regions with all of the perks of being a member of The California Wine Club.
What We Love: The California Wine Club has an excellent reputation and they've been in business a long time. We like that it's a family business supporting other family businesses.
Could Be Better: We have very little we feel The California Wine Club could do to improve. The prices sometimes feel a bit high, but when you factor in all of the benefits of membership, including a satisfaction guarantee, we still feel like you get what you pay for here.
