The Adventurer's Wine Box implies you never know what you're going to get, but you can bet since it's coming from Vinley Market it's probably going to be pretty good. Great wine value delivered monthly.
They don't make a big deal out of it, but the wines selected for this subscription are handpicked by a sommelier who loves the taste and the value of every bottle. And it shows.
As wine clubs go, the options are pretty limited. They only offer monthly shipments and 3-bottle packages. But since the wine is a good value it's worth exploring the selections and trying it their way.

Vinley Market is a new wine box service whose mission is to make wine fun and relaxed. It's rare to think of a wine club as being for a particular gender, but by design Vinley Market appeals to women — their packaging and branding make Vinley Market an especially great choice for gifting for holidays like Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, birthdays, and anniversaries. The packaging was over the top femme, but a more restrained feminine aesthetic is making its way into the club.
The Adventurer's Wine Box features three bottles of "wine from around the world that best represent their land of origin." This is a nice way of saying each shipment is built around a location-based theme and the included wines are selected for price and their how typical they are for wines of that region.
The Adventurer's Wine Box we received in November contained two whites and three reds that were NOT location-themed, but instead were Thanksgiving-friendy selections. We actually liked this just as much as we enjoy location-based themes because we learned quite a bit about food pairing from the tasting notes. The three selected wines were chosen for their ability to go with Turkey dinner and all its sweet fixings. Here's what we drank:
At WineClubReviews.net we take an objective approach to our star ratings system. Our written reviews are very much subjective, based on our 9+ years of wine club review experience and our own ideas about what good wine and good value mean. The star ratings are based on 11 attributes that we feel define what a wine club should be. Here is how Adventurer's Wine Box stacks up on these traits.
Note: This rating is our objective analysis of Vinley Market’s satisfaction guarantee—not our assessment of whether or not you’re guaranteed to be satisfied with their wines.
The language used on the website doesn't earn a five-star Satisfaction Guarantee rating from us, but we asked the owner via email if she'll replace anything customer's don't like, if even if it's not technically flawed, and she said, "Yep, we will replace. We want them to love the wine that we send!"
Their Return Policy
"At Vinley Market, we want you to love the wine that you find on our site! However, under California law, our Vendors are not allowed to accept wine returns. If your wine is flawed or damaged please let us know so we can assist you in sending a new bottle or providing a credit.""
We found the quality of the wine we received from Vinley Market to be very good. We reserve superlatives for very high-end wine, which isn't what the Adventurer's Wine Box is about. These wines are a great way to bring in a more interesting selection than what's available at your local grocery store. These are the kinds of wines you might find at your local wine shop, without the hassle of actually doing the shopping.
We feel the Adventurer's Wine Box offers good quality wine at a fair price. By fair, we mean close to retail. Overall the price feels a little steep given that good Beaujolais and Riesling often retail in the $12-16 range but the monthly shipments are $79 (includes shipping).
We look at three areas when evaluating the discount opportunities offered by a wine club. Is there an introductory offer to sweeten the deal? Are there discounts available for buying more of wines you loved in your shipments? Are there special discounts only available to members?
Vinley Market is relying on their own wine industry knowledge and strategic partnerships with sommeliers to curate their wine selection. Their goals around curation are to find wines that over deliver and "are not basic." We don't typically put a lot of emphasis on curation methods in our ratings system, but in the case of this wine club, this is something that sets them apart from other clubs.
The Adventurer's Wine Box, aside from Vinley Market's particular method of selecting wine, is not unique. We can think of other wine clubs that have themed three-bottle shipments.
Because Vinley Market is new, we don't have any customer complaints recorded. We also couldn't find any online. If issues arise, we'll update this review.
As personalization goes, Adventurer's Wine Box is not at all personalized. That's not a bad thing, but it's worth noting if you're picky and you want to customize your shipments. We think the biggest personalization factor missing is the ability to get shipments quarterly or bi-monthly instead of just monthly.
Vinley Market offers 10% off on your first shipment. You can get that deal from our site with promo code WCR2017.
Rather than specifically focus on reorders of wines from shipments, Vinley Market offers its members 10% on any wine purchases made, exclusing the shipments themselves.
Vinley Market focuses on the millennial market, so they offer at least the basic minimum of the conveniences a fully digital consumer wants. The most important of these conveniences are timely shipping notifications. According to the owner, customers are "...updated at each stage. When their credit cards are charged, when the box is ready for shipment, plus timely shipping updates with tracking as soon the wine club is shipped." We don't see the ability to skip or pause shipments online, but you can change your address and phone number via the website.
Vinley Market has found a balance in their wine education program. They tell you what you need to know, plus a little extra, without getting bogged down in information which distracts from enjoyment of the wine. Our shipment was Thanksgiving-themed so the food-pairing information was thorough — and helpful.
Vinley Market's Adventurer's Wine Box makes a nice wine gift. The packaging and branding are polished and the wines are delightful and surprising.
