These are advent calendars available in the US. A lot of the news about boozy advent calendars comes from the UK — even for brands we have here (like Laithwaites and Aldi) — and they may not be available here.
Heads up! If you are ordering a true Advent Calendar, they start on December 1. You'll need to order from most places by November 21 to guarantee delivery in time for December 1.

While kids of all ages look forward to a chocolate surprise each day in December leading up to Christmas, the adults get to look forward to Advent Calendars stocked with wine (and other booze) to help the holiday season go down a little more smoothly.
Beginning with ALDI and VineBox, wine advent calendars and Twelve Days of Christmas boxes really became a thing (in the US) several years ago. Like all trendy products the earliest versions are amazing and then everyone floods the market with mediocre versions to capitalize on the trend.
Here are some tips to make sure you get the most fun out of your boozy advent calendar splurge.
Tip #1: There are two kinds of boozy "advent calendars:"
You can treat the 12 Days of Christmas traditionally (starting on Christmas Day and enjoying through January 5), you can use it like a shorter Advent-style countdown which you’d start on December 12, or you can order two and start your fun on December 1.
Tip #2: Some calendars are designed for one person, some for two.
Depending on what kind of experience you’re looking for, you may want/need to double your order. If you have a partner or a friend you’re sharing with, check the volume of each container (I list that below) to make sure you have enough. In the Good to know section for each calendar I recommend how many people can enjoy the calendar, but use your own judgement.
Tip #3: Quality varies wildly and taste is subjective.
These wine, beer, and liquor advent calendars, for the most part, are mass-market products. If you are a connoisseur, you will not enjoy these products. If you believe you know what good wine/beer/liquor is, you probably will not enjoy these products. There are a few exceptions:
Tip #4: You can’t send booze everywhere in the US
If you’ve never ordered alcohol online there is no reason you should know this annoying fact. I break down the "why" at that link, but for now, all you need know is to check if you (or your gift recipient) can receive that advent calendar where they live or work.
I include shipping states in each listing (where they’re known) and also offer up advent calendars you can pick up locally at places like Aldi, Costco, Total Wine, Target, and World Market.
To make matters more complicated, in the UK they have MANY awesome boozy advent calendars that we don’t get in the states. You won’t find them on this list because I only work with a US audience. Many other advent calendar lists do not discriminate and will waste your time (because clickbait).
Wine Delivery Advice from a Pro: My recommendation is to ship the package to your workplace if possible, or once you receive your shipping notice, redirect the shipment to a nearby FedEx or UPS pick-up location (they work with big chain stores like Walgreens, Duane Reade, and Michaels, not just FedEx Office stores and UPS Stores).

My personal favorite among the Wine Advent Calendars is the one produced by In Good Taste. I’ve tried their 187mL (one fourth of a bottle) mini wines in the past and some are better than others, but it’s all perfect for enjoying a nightly glass of wine during the holidays. I like that they also provide a list of the wines in the box, with the wine region and grape varieties called out. Some wines have tasting notes. As is appropriate to enjoy the surprise aspect of the advent calendar, they don’t tell you which wine you’ll open each day.
In 2024, they’ve updated their Advent Calendar experience. They’ve cancelled the rewards program offering 3x rewards points on purchases of Advent Calendars. No biggie if all you ever order from them is an advent calendar.
