How to get wine delivered in Kentucky
Whether you are shipping to yourself, a friend, a colleague, or a family member, you must purchase alcohol and have it mailed by an entity with a valid liquor license.
As a non-licensee it is never legal for you to ship alcohol yourself in the United States, much less to KY residents.
Wine may be delivered Kentucky via FedEx, UPS, or other private shippers, but the USPS does not permit the shipping of alcohol of any kind. These types of services deliver wine to KY:
- Wine Clubs ship to Kentucky
- Wine Gifts delivered to Kentucky
- Wine delivered to Kentucky via FedEx or UPS
- Same-day wine delivery in Kentucky
- Wineries who deliver to Kentucky
FYI: I find great wine deals so you don’t have to. To keep me on the hunt, I earn a commission when you buy wine based on my recommendations.

Did you know? In Kentucky, outdated wine shipping laws going back to Prohibition are still in place, impeding or outright preventing interstate shipping of certain wines from retailers directly to consumers. The wine you personally can buy is limited by these outdated laws. The links above will get you to wines who can deliver to you, but which wines they are allowed to send you may be limited by these laws. Want more choices? Can you ship wine to Kentucky?
Yes, you can get wine delivered to Kentucky, with caveats. The State of Kentucky allows wineries outside of Kentucky to deliver wine to Kentucky households. Kentucky does not permit out-of-state retailers to ship wine to Kentucky residents, though
Limited options do exist.
The Fine Print
Dry Communities: A dry community is one in which sales (or delivery) of alcoholic beverages are prohibited. A “dry” community is one in which sales (or delivery) of alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Kentucky has 11 completely dry counties at present, as well as another 56 counties that are “moist” — that is, dry but with special circumstances.
The State of Kentucky allows wineries outside of Kentucky to deliver wine to Kentucky households via Common Carrier (FedEx, UPS, etc.). These companies must obtain a Direct Shipping License (among other requirements). There is a monthly limit of 10 cases per producer per KY resident. All direct-shipped wine is subject to a $0.50 per gallon wine excise tax (a gallon of wine is roughly equivalent to five bottles of wine) in addition to any applicable sales taxes. Someone 21 years old or older must be available to sign for the package upon delivery.
Buyer beware. While we do our best to make it easy to find wine that can be delivered to your state, each winery and retailer is the final say in whether they will ship to consumers. Those that do so without a permit often disclose on their site in the Terms of Service, Legal, or Shipping pages that you are responsible for obeying the laws of your state, not the retailer.
