How to get wine delivered in Michigan
Whether you are shipping to yourself, a friend, a colleague, or a family member, you must purchase alcohol and have it mailed by an entity with a valid liquor license.
As a non-licensee it is never legal for you to ship alcohol yourself in the United States, much less to MI residents.
Wine may be delivered Michigan via FedEx, UPS, or other private shippers, but the USPS does not permit the shipping of alcohol of any kind. These types of services deliver wine to MI:
- Wine Clubs ship to Michigan
- Wine Gifts delivered to Michigan
- Wine delivered to Michigan via FedEx or UPS
- Same-day wine delivery in Michigan
- Wineries who deliver to Michigan
FYI: I find great wine deals so you don’t have to. To keep me on the hunt, I earn a commission when you buy wine based on my recommendations.

Did you know? In Michigan, outdated wine shipping laws going back to Prohibition are still in place, impeding or outright preventing interstate shipping of certain wines from retailers directly to consumers. The wine you personally can buy is limited by these outdated laws. The links above will get you to wines who can deliver to you, but which wines they are allowed to send you may be limited by these laws. Want more choices? There are other legal ways to ship wine to Michigan residents but we don’t check how each wine subscription service goes about doing it — the companies who offer wine subscriptions are responsible for the legalities of their shipping policies.

The Fine Print
Dry Communities: A dry community is one in which sales (or delivery) of alcoholic beverages are prohibited. A “dry” community is one in which sales (or delivery) of alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Michigan no longer has any dry communities.
The State of Michigan allows wineries outside of Michigan to deliver wine to Michigan residents via Common Carrier (FedEx, UPS, etc.). Wineries must obtain a Direct Shipper Permit (among other requirements). Outstate Seller of Wine (OSSW) are not allowed to ship directly to consumers. Shipments must not exceed 1500 12-bottle cases to the entirety of the state per year. All direct-shipped wine is subject to a $0.135 per liter wine excise tax (a standard bottle of wine is 0.750L, and this applies to wine under 16% alcohol by volume) in addition to any applicable sales taxes. Someone 21 years old or older must be available to sign for the package upon delivery.
Buyer beware. While we do our best to make it easy to find wine that can be delivered to your state, each winery and retailer is the final say in whether they will ship to consumers. Those that do so without a permit often disclose on their site in the Terms of Service, Legal, or Shipping pages that you are responsible for obeying the laws of your state, not the retailer.
